Foot Pain

Foot pain is caused by many different diseases, biomechanical conditions, acute or repetitive trauma, and any combination of these.

Any disease that has an effect to blood supply, the nerves, the bones or the soft tissue can cause foot pain. A podiatrist will conduct a number of tests to determine the underlying factors in each individual case.

Biomechanics is how the muscles, bones, tendons and ligament work together to move the body. Abnormalities in biomechanical function can cause pain in the feet and legs. A biomechanical assessment will identify the underlying issue and form the basis for a treatment plan.

Acute injuries are when the injury occurs suddenly. Common acute injuries include ligament sprains, muscle sprains, bruises and fractures. When acute injuries occur it is best to consult a health professional quickly so treatment can begin before scarring or further damage occurs. Repetitive trauma (also called overuse injuries) involves lower levels of trauma, which occur frequently. Common overuse injuries include plantar fasciitis, shin splints and Morton’s neuromas.
